Singapore Replaces O-Levels With Mandatory ABRSM Grade 8 Piano Exam
The Ministry of Education (MOE) announced yesterday that, effective immediately, graduating from Primary 6 now requires Grade 8 Piano proficiency, with an additional compulsory module in advanced sight-reading of Chopin's Études. This move aims to "foster holistic excellence," sources confirmed. Parents, already juggling tuition for coding and advanced Mandarin, were reportedly unfazed. “*Aiya, so easy only lah. My eight-year-old only got Grade 6 last month. Now this? Never mind, just cancel his enrichment for robotics, more time for scales,*” remarked one stoic parent while booking a $400/hour concert pianist tutor. Failure to achieve the standard will result in automatic placement into the Express stream for remedial clarinet instruction.
