Esplanade Audience Mistakes Man’s Unresolved Father Issues For “Ethic Of Care”
The Singaporean elite gathered at the Esplanade this weekend to witness a grown man convulsing on stage and call it a "profound exploration of childhood."
The production, Chotto Desh, claims to build an "ethic of care" into every gesture, which is high-brow terminology for a middle-aged man throwing a tantrum for an hour.
Critics were mesmerised by the scene where the protagonist ignores his father’s orders to help with the housework, a move that local parents usually categorise as "asking for a slap."
"Wah, the way he roll around the floor really show his inner struggle ah," noted audience member Serene Koh.
"If my boy do the same thing at home, I call the police, but here I pay $80 plus booking fee for the culture."
This satire is based on a real news story.
